🔍 Sometimes it's not the outcome, but the overlooked patterns that matter most.

This flowchart captures a silent reality, how small decisions and invisible habits compound into undesired career paths. From academic stress to burnout, and from neglected skills to financial crisis—this is a system of causes, not isolated events.

🎓 If you're a student navigating this AI-driven, hyper-competitive era:

  • Your resume may look perfect,

  • Your marks may shine, 👉 But if your habits, mindset, and industry readiness aren't aligned, you’ll face a different outcome than you expect.

This flow was haunting my thoughts. It shows how things often don’t end up the way they’re supposed to—not because of one big mistake, but due to overlooked choices made daily.

⚠️ Be intentional about how you study, network, build skills, and face failure.
Bad outcomes aren’t built in a day. Neither are great careers.

Keep thinking. Stay aware. Own your path.

Knowledge is Cheap, but Focus is Expensive!

Want to be productive today? It’s not about working long hours or collecting shiny accolades. True innovation doesn’t come from:

❌ More hours worked
❌ Star ratings on a project
❌ Endless hackathons
❌ Tech talks

With so much knowledge and code readily available, real impact comes from:

✅ Working with a great team
✅ Collaborating effectively
✅ Iterating and improving
✅ Failing fast and learning
✅ Solving smaller, meaningful problems

Instead of chasing a grand vision, start building—step by step.

Keep thinking. Keep solving. Keep moving forward.!!

Growing Better in Your Perspective, Not in Comparison

Career is Not:

The competition challenges individuals to prove their relevance, contributions, and visibility. It can become a cycle of constantly demonstrating skills, communication, and expertise to outshine others in a highly competitive landscape. The relentless pursuit of visibility creates a dynamic where comparisons become inevitable, even when the differences are as distinct as apples and oranges. We find ourselves not only competing with direct peers but also with colleagues across various divisions, all striving to be recognized and make a meaningful impact.

Career Is:

Take time to build your perspectives and focus on what you can do during your peak years of good health and availability. A career is more about experience and shaping what truly makes you happy. It’s a marathon, not a sprint - plan your journey in phases and balance your priorities.

"Growth is not measured by how far ahead you are of others, but by how deeply you understand yourself and how intentionally you shape your journey."

The Experimenter’s Mindset: Focus, Iterate, Persist!

  • Productivity = Focused Time
  • Ideation = Aha! Moment + Iteration
  • Right Idea + Confidence = Realization
  • Don’t stop experimenting just because you haven’t learned everything.
  • Some fundamentals and assumptions will evolve as you learn from mistakes.
  • Persistence > Time / Data / Needs / Tech Perspectives
  • Success = Sticking to your idea despite constraints!

Consistency, Latency, and Relevance in my AI Advisory Role :)

  • Sometimes we need to move beyond the myth of waiting for #growth or #title to understand how well we can perform across roles, leveraging our strengths based on the situation.
  • Sometimes you provide a tech overview, and that may translate into a PRD (Pseudo PM :).
  • Sometimes you discuss latency again and again, slice and dice data, and there will be an “aha” moment (RAG specialist).
  • Past experiments, current failures, and handling unknowns with a bit of intuition make you an optimistic solution architect.
  • With GenAI, every role seems to blend multiple functions. Know the product, know the futuristic workflow, code, demo, and be hands-on whenever possible to make an impact.
  • Be focused only on areas where you can scale. You cannot scale in every tech/role.
  • GenAI in supply chain course preparation work made me revisit my Microsoft experience and reimagine the agentic supply chain.
  • GenAI for the leadership project creation work helped me create usecases to evaluate balance time, money, and talent for 'C'-suite planning.
  • Auditing the GenAI app made me realize that security and Ethical AI need more attention.
  • Knowledge is collected through multiple highs, lows, failures, and moments in life. In the end, you can be a well-informed mentor who has tried technology to the best of your ability.

Time-Based vs. Value-Based Pricing

  • Ideas are born from experiments.
  • Experiments are fueled by curiosity.
  • Experiments rely on observations.
  • Observations stem from a learning mindset.
  • Learning is multifaceted.

Solving a problem in one hour often comes from countless hours of background work leading up to that moment.

Understand your pricing model and price wisely.

Finding Meaning Beyond the Clock: Embrace Passion, Perspective, and Purpose in Work and Life

There are different categories of people based on their work hours.

Some will work 100 hours, others will work 8 hours, and some will find a balance. Some work more when they find the work interesting. It's hard to say whether working 100 hours equals productivity or working 8 hours means mediocrity.

I suggest spending more time on activities you enjoy and less on those you don't. Remember, life is about choices and how you live each day. Personally, I need to read the same subject multiple times to understand it. This doesn't mean I do it all within 100 hours. My learning involves repeating experiments and gaining new perspectives each time.

Understanding a subject, connecting with it, and seeing it from different perspectives are unique learning moments. These cannot be measured simply by the hours spent. Instead of counting hours, focus on the new ideas you discover and how engaging they are. Ask yourself if you are connecting with your work and if your experiments are satisfying.

It's not just about money. Everything in life is finite. Evaluate whether you are productive and if your techniques are effective.

Thank you.!!!

Good vs Great Solutions

Solutions can be built with different levels of accuracy/scalability based on Talent, Time, and Money

  • Product built with 20$ Upwork contractor
  • Product built with 400$ up-work expert
  • Product built with 40K FTE
  • Product built with 100K FTE Experienced Research / Dev
How do you differentiate each one based on architecture, performance, and benchmark against the best?

Professional Growth Must Come From Personal Growth

Brilliant talk, Loved it. Do not play politics, build on your values.

Thanks for highlighting my quote, Brilliant talk.

Professional Growth Must Come from Personal Growth" was a brilliant talk. It focused on understanding career growth versus values versus visibility. Often, it's a mix of factors that contribute to growth: contribution, visibility, and access to high-value work. Everything involves teamwork. Growth stems from self-centered visibility versus growing as a team; both are traits of a leader, whether selfish or selfless.

Developing Your Skills in Data Science and AI

You don't need a title to learn/work in data science
You don't need to start with what everyone is recommending.
Focus on a few areas of AI, not the complete landscape.
Seek out mentors to guide you.
Learn by collaborating, solving problems, and asking for help in AI-related issues.
Do not believe that the growth path is the same for everyone; avoid a copycat approach.
Sometimes, you need to work without titles to really excel in your areas of interest.
Experiment / Look for Real-time problem-solving, and proposing solutions
Be resilient setbacks are okay, Pause and find alternate solutions
Consistently seek understanding and clarity.
Roll up your sleeves, not all the time, but only for meaningful AI work. Remember, you are not a machine. Strive at a consistent pace.
Learn to differentiate Pro AI vs AI Hype and develop intuition to spot it

Job vs Solopreneur vs Ideas vs Intuition vs Learning

In the corporate world, navigating the hierarchy of influence often poses a challenge, particularly when it comes to balancing the time required to sell personal ideas against completing assigned tasks. Jobs typically compensate us for specific deliverables, not for the incubation or pitching of our innovative ideas.

The process of advancing personal ideas depends heavily on the organizational culture. When there is genuine acceptance and support for innovation, pushing personal concepts becomes not only feasible but also encouraged. However, more often than not, we encounter environments where ideas are welcomed in discussions, but follow-up and implementation fade away, lost to immediate business priorities.

In such scenarios, one may feel compelled to take on a solopreneurial approach. This involves stepping away from the structured organizational roles and exploring the uncertain waters of individual innovation. By adopting the role of a solopreneur, we give ourselves the opportunity to fully develop and test our ideas without the restrictions and influences of corporate agendas.

Living through this uncertainty requires resilience. It isn't merely about having a groundbreaking idea; it's also about having the tenacity to bring that idea to MVP amid fluctuating circumstances. As solopreneurs, we maneuver through diverse challenges, test our limits, and learn invaluable lessons about both our crafts and ourselves.

The Journey is the Experience and the wealth is the Learning

Career Perspectives

Few key things that apply to me :)

  • Build key relationships by networking and offering something valuable - ideas/playbook / POC.
  • Fifth, select challenging projects that promise significant early wins, even if they require extra effort initially.
  • Finally, at the end of the month, create a reflective document detailing your observations to better understand and improve your approach.

Career Blues and perspectives

My selected list from below bookmarked articles

  • Try to become a new person every 3-6 years.
  • Try to solve big problems as fast as possible.
  • Adding a little bit of extra productivity to every day is great advice. The challenge can be finding the time, which means you need to subtract time from some other activities.
  • I write only when inspiration strikes. Fortunately it strikes every morning at nine o'clock sharp — W. Somerset Maugham
  • Focus more on my own future rather than on what others think.
  • Set clear short-term and long-term career goals.
  • Enjoying programming and having the time outside of work. When it's a passion it all becomes a lot easier.
  • Effort and consistency trumps all
  • I personally believe anybody can find success if they just focus on the journey and the joy of coding, make sure they show up and participate, be present, stay curious and playful, and don't expect any rewards for their efforts. The real reward is having fun and feeling fulfilled while you're creating something.

“Can ML solve my problem?

What it takes to get to the level, ML Perspectives

Even answering the question “Can ML solve my problem?” requires you to overcome half of the challenges ML libraries, Find state-of-the-art (SOTA) deep neural networks, experiments, and MLOps.

Machine learning often boils down to the art of developing an intuition for where something went wrong.

Certain behavior signals with where the problem likely is in your debugging space - preprocessing, data issues, optimization, weak labels, and learning rates. ML Learning = Experimentation = Experience.

The efforts in terms of marking production-ready apps - Text, Code copilot are in (primetime)

Vision tools/custom tools are evolving rapidly. The maturity of imagegen, DALLE3, and Midjourney is nearing prime time in 2024, One area is learning to build production solutions where there is maturity. Another area is building custom tools where maturity is nearing prime time :)

Leadership vs The Job Security Myths Vs Layoffs

Key Article from Googler

  • Pattern #1 - They point in a direction, their subordinates swarm the area, try a bunch of stuff, and sometimes something sticks and is cool.
  • Pattern #2 - Given that they have no real vision of their own, they really need their subordinates to come up with cool stuff for them
  • Pattern #3 - Just randomly firing people, torching institutional knowledge, and blowing up perfectly functional teams.

So I guess I will just hang around and do my job until Google no longer wants me.

Job Security Myths

There is no relationship between skills vs job vs priority. We need to carve our own skills to survive.

  • When you know tech, you feel like know business to remain competitive
  • When you know Database, you feel like learning API to remain competitive
  • When you know ML, you feel like learning Kubernetes, and MLOps to remain competitive
  • When you know UI, you feel like learning DB, and API to remain competitive

Add everything that compliments, You can only be a better version every day not by comparison but by your own aspirations

Reasons for change of Role / Job Switch

  • Some roles are toothless, You do the same thing over the years
  • Your motivation will get killed when your ideas get killed
  • Working with clients who do not see the big picture will not help you grow
  • Life is short when you are @ 40, You cannot wait for 5 years with the hope that you will get to your goals
  • The world is full of busy people implementing their ideas, When you are not in a position to implement your idea you need to find a place where you implement/own/improve your idea
  • Demos get demolished after the meeting; Real value / Innovation building is a continuous effort not a sprint job
